The Viaduct’s 12th Anniversary

The Viaduct was inaugurated on 14th December 2004, 12 years ago already. Almost 5 million vehicles have crossed the Viaduct this year (2016), thanks to a constantly changing tollgate.

From the extension work in 2005, to the installation of 30kph electronic toll collection lanes, as well as all-payment lanes with recycling, the tollgate has been constantly evolving so as to both decongest and secure traffic. On 13th August, 65 828 vehicles crossed the Viaduct - an all-time record.

Concerning tourism, 2016 will see the closure of the Visitors' Centre (Viaduc Espace Info). The adventure continues from April 2017 in the Viaduct Exhibit (Viaduc Expo) in the Millau Viaduct rest area. Some brand new museography will showcase the Eiffage world with 220m² of technology and images. The more curious can follow the guide on the "Explorers' Path" (Sentier des Explorateurs).

In February, Compagnie Eiffage became the contractor for the rest area and is investing €2 million in the improvement of services provided to its customers.
The Millau Viaduct has some more exciting years to look forward to on the road ahead...
