Inaugurated in 2004 in the presence of Jacques Chirac, the viaduc represented since the beginning of the project “the technical and scientific excellence”, according to the French President of the time. The co-operation between Michel Virlogeux – chief engineer – and Lord Norman Foster – architect – gave birth to a major architectural structure, allowing a whole region opening up. It has been the viaduct of every record (highest crane and pier of the world, construction in only 3 years), but also of every event... Passage of the Patrouille de France, ministerial and site visits, VIP (from the inside of the deck to the top of the pylon), shootings for advertising and cinema have punctuated the daily life of the Compagnie Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau teams. Not to mention the six editions of the Course Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau en Aveyron, that gathered a few thousands of runners bewteen earth and sky. Since its opening, around 84 million of vehicles have taken the Millau Viaduct. We hope the traffic will keep increasing in the future ! See all news
